Matthew 5:21-22a—Jesus said, “You have heard that it was said to those
of old, ‘You shall not murder, and whoever murders will be in danger of
the judgment.’ But I say to you that whoever is angry with his
brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment…”
1 John 3:15—“Whoever hates his brother is a murderer..”
Def.:--‘Anger’—speaks
of internal motion, the swelling up inside, to provoke, enrage, become
exasperated, to be violent, the thought of revenge.
Anger comes when you feel your or another’s personal boundaries have been violated. Defined as an intent to preserve—1. personal worth
2. essential needs
3. basic convictions
Proverbs 19:11—says, “A man’s wisdom gives him patience. It is to his glory to overlook an offense.”
1. Sudden anger
Proverbs 14:17—“A quick-tempered man does foolish things.”
Proverbs 15:18—“A hot tempered man stirs up dissension.”
Proverbs 18:13—“He who answers before listening – that is his folly and his shame.”
If you have a sudden temper, then you need to control it.
2. Sinful Anger is to be condemned
Matt.
5:21—Jesus says, “You have heard that it was said to the people long
ago, ‘Do not murder, and anyone who murders will be subject to
judgment. But I tell you that anyone who is angry with his
brother will be subject to judgment.”
5 test to tell whether or not our anger is sinful anger:
a. Is it anger directed towards a person?
b. Is it anger without a justifiable cause?
c. Is it anger that seeks vengeance?
d. Is it anger that is cherished?
e. Is it anger that has an unforgiving spirit?

Stubborn Anger is to be Conquered: Eph. 4:26, “Be you angry, and
sin not. Let not the sun go down on your wrath.” Vs. 27, “And do
not give the devil a foothold.”
4. Sanctified Anger must be Channeled in the right Direction for God: Eph. 4:26, “Be angry and do not sin”
How to Gain Control of My Anger:
The Bible says, “Love is not easily angered.”
1 Commit to controlling it
2. Count the cost
3. Think rather than throw
4.Communicate my anger correctly
5. Retrain my mind—Ro.12:2, “Be transformed by the renewing of you mind.”

Associate with people who manage their anger well—Pro.22:24, “do not
make friends with a hot-tempered man, do not associate with one easily
angered, or you may learn his ways and get yourself ensnared.”
